A Few Moments of Sweet Serenity

After rereading my last post I thought I would revisit some of my most recent moments of serenity. That always warms my insides : ) I did mention a few weeks back that we decided to spend Easter in the mountains of Georgia this year, but I never elaborated on that most perfect of trips! Let me tell you first off, I am a creature of habit...you have turkey on Thanksgiving...ham on Easter and major holidays are always spent at home around a big table full of traditional foods. So, for us to take this vacation aka adventure was the equivalent of taking a fish out of water. (I hate using cliches, but this one fits) Anyhow, we had such a blast! Unlike theme parks, which can be fun, , we had pure family togetherness! There was no hustling from place to place. It was the simple pleasures that made this vacation so wonderful. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was perfect. Don't get me wrong, we did lots of fun things, but they were all simple things...nothing took away from our time together. Like I mentioned earlier about doing things a certain way, it is during times like these I realize why God put Mike in my life. Change doesn't bother him, in fact, he lives for it! So this vacation was right up his alley! Not only did we have turkey on Easter in a cabin, but we didn't even have the traditional fixins! I'm here to testify that although we veered from the norm, it was simply amazing! Here are just a few pictures of one my favorite family vacations!
One of our days we hiked to a small waterfall and had a picnic on the rocks below. I was afraid the babies would be crazy with excitement, but they weren't. They seemed to enjoy the peacefulness of the moment right alongside the rest of us.
Another day we took a trip into the small town of Blue Ridge. We went to the playground and then treated ourselves to some ice cream. This was the first strawberry ice cream cone for our little ones. As you can tell, they enjoyed every bit of it!
The big kids were thrilled to see that their one scoop was more like 3!! Needless to say, this "snack" filled us up!
We went to an old school drive-in movie theatre on Friday night. Again, everyone surprised me! The babies enjoyed their Goldfish snacks while the rest of us partook of some popcorn!!! We saw How To Train A Dragon...not in 3D, but STILL fantastic!!
Saturday afternoon we surprised the kids with a train ride that led us straight into a huge field where the kids were able to hunt for candy eggs. It was so much fun! The look on their faces as the train whistle blew the first time made it for me!
Happy little campers with way too many candy eggs! There was enough sugar in those baskets to keep us all going for 3 days straight.

Of course, all good things must come to an end. Although, it was sad to say good-bye to such a wonderful place, we made some great memories. Memories that I hope my children will always treasure. We are truly blessed.
