A New Heart

"I'll give it 6 weeks and then I am going back to work."

Those were my exact words to my husband as we were preparing for the birth of our second child.  I had been working ever since Victoria was four months old and I loved it.  I worked at a news station as a news producer.  I was responsible for the noon show.  I loved the excitement and I thrived in the environment.  So the thought of giving all that up to be a stay-at-home Mom was simply out of the question, in my mind.  Shortly after giving birth to Ethan our lives quickly changed.  The tragedies of September 11th happened; we moved away from my family, to Florida, for the first time ever; Mike was no longer a college student, he was now supporting a family of four and I was now a temporary homemaker.

The first few weeks went by in a blur.  Being 21 years old juggling a newborn and an 19 month old was no joke.  I think it is safe to say, I had no earthly idea what I was suppose to be doing other than nursing a baby and changing diapers.  I am quite sure we ate our share of Ramen noodles, spaghetti and hot dogs.  It took a while, but slowly I started getting the hang of things.  Getting up...throwing in some laundry...doing an art project with Victoria...cleaning the kitchen...start thinking about dinner...and so on.  We lived in an apartment in Florida for about 2 months before moving into our house on base.  It was the most wonderful feeling...our first house!  (Even though it wasn't really ours)  I had so much fun decorating our home and organizing my kitchen!  Before I knew it, I was coming up with meal plans and ways to better budget our money.  Mike's schedule worked out pretty well for awhile and he was able to come home for lunch.  I would go farther than soup and sandwiches...he might get tacos or chicken even!  I discovered that I loved to cook and bake!  I loved organizing and doing projects around the house!  I loved reading and coloring and making messes with the kids!  The best part...I could do it in my pajamas if I wanted.  A whole new world had been opened up for me.  A world I never would have discovered if Mike had not encouraged me to take some time to Mother our children. By no means am I a pro, nor do I love my job every minute of every day, because it is a job.  I turned in my 9-5 time card for a 24 hour a day card.   There are things I love to do and things I'd rather not even discuss, but this is by far the most rewarding occupation I could ever imagine doing.  So, here I am, 10 years later and I have no plans to reenter the work place.  I am so blessed to be right here and so proud to be an official stay-at-home Mom.

  2. I love this post girl! I did not know you used to work!! Sounds like you had a super-fun job, but I am glad you are a mom. :)

"Love it!! My favorite place to organize and reorganize is the kitchen! It always gives me such a sense of accomplishment : )
    When's the hubby deploying? "

I clean my kitchen a lot, but have trouble organizing it. It seems like there is usually one place to put most things. Jon doesn't want me to say online when exactly, but it's coming up very soon. :)
